For Weds.

Hello all,

For Weds., you need to make sure that you read the Machiavelli sections. I have attached the sections to the email, and I have also attached a section on the blog (ecandp2008spring.blogspot.com). We will also have a fun reading for this discussion.

You also need to work on editing your memoir. Remember you need to complete your svo on the draft. Project One is due on March 7th. For Project One, you will want to include:
1. Free writing
2. Hero's journey chart
3. Peer Review
4. Instructor Reviewed
5. Revision handout
6 SVO
7. Final draft of memoir.
8. Poem draft
9 Final draft of poem.

In addition, we started project two in class. Attached to the email is the outline and the first exercise. I have also attached this to the blog via a comment on this post. You will want to explore three of the themes on the handout and bring this exploration to class on Weds.

Take care,

Kat

CO 122: Analytic and Persuasive Writing
Professor Kathleen Robinson
Project Two
Kathleen Robinson
Project description
Project Two concentrates on continuing to examine the student’s location in the larger cultural community. The focus is on exploring a specific community and culture that the student is involved with during his/her academic career. The project requires research, writing, revising, and editing skills. The focus of the text will be on locating on thematic concern from your memoir (project one) and on creating a text that presents the issue analytically and discusses the issue using researched information. The text will follow the standard rhetorical pattern of introduction, statement of facts, division, proof, refutation, and conclusion.

Some examples for this project would be:
1. Look at your memoir and locate one area of the experience that addresses a larger theme. A memoir about going to college could also contain issues about gender, acceptance, economics, etc.
2. Examine your memoir for hints of events that may have precipitated the material. For instance, events that occurred with parents or friends such as immigration, being the first to go to college, voting, etc.
3. Explore your memoir for issues directly related to the group(s) you belong to in the memoir. For example, if you are in a group that receives scholarship funding, examine the reasons why this group should receive funding. If the group does not receive funding, examine the reasons why it should.

Project Requirements
The project will require the student to complete the planning exercise, create an annotated bibliography of at least 5 sources (1 book, 2 articles, 1 web-based, and 1 wild card), create a working outline, create a draft, create and participate in a peer review session, create an s/v/o and a does/says, create a draft for instructor revision, and create a final polished draft. (1000-1500 words)
